Client story - Scout, Collie cross female 5 years old
Una welcomed Scout, her 18 weeks old border collie, during the covid pandemic and quickly realised she had high-energy working dog traits with limited opportunities for socialisation. Herding instincts, reactivity and lack of exposure made everyday life challenging. through our work together, Una gained the tools and confidence to understand Scout's needs turning stressful walks into positive enjoyable experiences for both of them. In Una's own words:
"I met with Ben for support with my dog Scout... I had wanted to have a dog for a long time and I was over the moon when Scout came into my life. However along the joy came a lot unexpected challenges. As lovely as Scout is , she is a lively and reactive collie. In the early days I felt at my wits end trying to manage some of Scout's behaviour.
Having support from Ben was invaluable .Ben was a very calm and knowledgable presence alongside me in dealing with the stress of managing some of scout's behaviours. Ben has a very insightful, non-judgemental and reassuring approach to training which helps you feel that it will all be OK. Ben emphasises the relationship that you build with your dog which has helped me to respond in a more thoughtful manner. In particular , Ben helped me with recall and managing Scout reactivity. These behaviours have not disappeared all together , but they have subsided and became more manageable. As a result the challenges are increasingly outweighed by the pleasure , privilege and joy that comes with sharing your life with a dog".
